At GetFit Wellness we place great importance on behaviour change principles as the scientific base for our solutions, but what does this mean?

Many Factors

Many of the more common diseases do not have a single cause - multiple factors lead to an increased risk. An example is heart disease: poor diet, smoking, excess alcohol, and low physical activity levels may all contribute to this condition.

Individuals can reduce their disease risk by modifying their habitual behaviours.

Model of Changes

Behaviour change programmes seek to influence a person to make positive lifestyle modifications for disease risk management. The process enables understanding of the relationship between their daily habits and their health, and empowers them to make good choices for looking after it.

Various theories of behaviour change exist, modelling how individuals come to understand the relationship between lifestyle and health, and what influences their decision-making process.

The theories include the health belief model; the theory of planned behaviour; social cognitive theory; protection motivation theory and the trans-theoretical model (sometimes called Stages of Change).

Our Fundamental Approach

Cognitions (thoughts and beliefs) are the fundamental element within each model, and the GetFit Wellness behaviour change system influences individuals to make lifestyle modifications that bring about better health by employing techniques and unique features developed on this theoretical basis.
